Billy, the cat, had been sitting on the window-sill when Farmer Godfrey was hammering something on the wall. Billy watched with great interest. Farmer Godfrey put in the nail and then hung a picture on it. It was the picture of a cat! Billy swelled with pride, “There’s just one picture!” he announced to the farm animals and birds, “And it’s the picture of a cat!” “But that could be any cat,” commented Job, the horse, chewing his oats, “It’s not you. So, why are you showing off?” “It just shows how important cats are!” said Billy. The next day, there was more hammering. Four new pictures had been hung up in the dining room. Billy looked aghast. ‘Four pictures of horses riding and jumping were hung! And there was only one of a cat!’ he thought. That evening, Billy silently went about chasing a mouse. He didn’t say a word about the pictures!
