The Muddy Water

Once, a monk was travelling with his student. The monk became thirsty and told his student, “Please get me some water from the lake there.” The student went to the lake. He saw a bullock cart crossing the lake, making the water muddy. He told the monk, “The water in the lake is very muddy. I don’t think it is drinkable.” After a few hours, the monk asked the student to go back to the lake. He reached the lake and found it clear and clean. He collected some water and brought it to the monk. The monk said, “See, what you did to make the water clean. You let it be and the mud settled down on its own. Our mind is also like that! When it is disturbed, just let it be!”

Moral: Do not decide with a troubled mind; let it calm down on its own.
