Once, there was a cruel and miserly king. One day, a monk came to his court and narrated a parable. He said, “Once, a wicked king ruled the Earth. Thus, Lord Indra came to the Earth in the form of a hunter with the Naraka Matali who appeared as a fierce dog. When the hunter visited the king, his dog barked loudly. The hunter told the king, ‘My dog is hungry.’ The king was scared and ordered all the food to be brought before the dog. The dog was still not satisfied. The frightened king asked, ‘What will satisfy your dog?’ The hunter replied, ‘The dog will be satisfied with its enemy’s flesh. It will howl as long as people are hungry in the kingdom and his enemies are those who practise injustice.’ The king learnt his lesson and gave up his wicked ways.”
