The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, ‘The Hanging Gardens of Babylon’ is a picture of lush greenery and colourful flowers cascading from the sky. It is said to be a remarkable feat of engineering: an ascending series of tiered gardens containing all manner of trees, shrubs and vines, made up of a simulated mountain with rooftop gardens. According to legend, Nebuchadnezzar had the Hanging Gardens built around 600 BCE for his wife Amytis. The elaborate garden was constructed to replicate her lush homeland and cheer her up. Sadly, their entire existence is debated due to lack of documentation and definitive archaeological evidence.
