There is a high rock on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits which is an island in the eastern sea.
This rock is magical and very creative. One day, the rock burst open and an egg made of rock fell out of it. A stone ape emerged from the egg.
He learnt to walk and leap, and his eyes began to glow. The Lord of Heaven saw him and sent two gods, Thousandmile–Eye and Fine-Ears to check out what was going on. They told him the truth and there was nothing to worry.
The stone ape grew up, eating the fruits and the flowers and playing with other apes on the mountain and the streams. One day, they went to a waterfall. The apes said, “The one who can go through the waterfall safely will be our king.”
The stone ape jumped through the waterfall and found himself on an iron bridge. On it a sign said that it was the heavenly cave behind the water-curtain. He returned and told the apes about it.
They were happy and asked him to take them there. He took them all to the cave castle and found it was full of pots and plates, cups and pans, all made of stone.
The stone ape had fulfilled the task successfully. So, the apes kept their promise and made him their King. He was named Handsome King of Apes. The King proved to be wise and good.
He appointed different kinds of apes and monkeys as ministers, counsellors, servants and soldiers in his kingdom. They served him faithfully and every night they slept safely in the cave-castle, unafraid of all the wild animals who could attack them.
