The First Old Man and the Hind

The-First-Old-Man-and-the-Hind

The old man revealed the hind with him was his wife. He had adopted the son of his slave and willed to make him his heir. His wife despised both the mother and the child.

In his absence, his wife used her possessed magical powers and converted his son into a calf and the mother into a cow. Thereafter, gave them to their steward. When the man returned, she informed him of his slave’s death and his son’s disappearance.

At Bairam feast, the man ordered a healthy cow for sacrifice. Seeing the cow weeping, he instead asked the steward to kill him on the wife’s persuasion.

He then called for a fat calf. Surprisingly, the calf too wept and threw itself at his feet for pity, and was released. Later, the man was informed about the magical spells cast by his wife on his son and mother, by the steward’s daughter. She converted the calf into a young man and they got married. His wife was converted into a hind.

The genie granted the third part of the merchant’s punishment to the old man. The second old man then pleaded to recite his story and be granted the same. The genie consented.
