Mae and Gale were two little fairies who studied at Fairy School. One day, Fairy Godmother said, “The ‘Spring Carnival’ is tomorrow. I want you both to bring a unicorn each for the merry-go-round.” Mae and Gale found two unicorns gazing in the meadow. Mae said, “Gale, tie them to a tree while I bring them something to eat.” Gale struggled with the ropes and cried, “I wish I had paid attention when the Fairy Godmother taught us how to tie a knot.” Somehow, Gale managed to tie the unicorns and went looking for Mae. When the fairies returned, the unicorns had freed themselves. They hurried after the unicorns’ footprints and found them near the lake. Mae caught them and said, “Gale, tie a rope around their necks!” Gale hesitated, but Mae encouraged, “I will sing the poem of the knots and you tie the rope.” Finally, Gale succeeded and the fairies took them to the Spring Carnival.
