In the wild, termites are considered ecologically important. They help in nutrient recycling, habitat creation and soil formation. They are social insects and the workers termites are responsible for building and maintaining nests. These nests house huge colonies of termites. A mature queen termite lays as many as 20,000 to 30,000 eggs a day. While their diet varies from species to species, all species of termites eat cellulose in various forms as plant fibre.
