Sri Rama’s Jala-samadhi

The entire populace of Ayodhya had come to the banks of the Sarayu with Sri Rama as he prepared to take jala-samadhi, the final peace of death by submerging himself in water. He entered the whirlpool that appeared in the river. The gods had come there along with sages and saints, the army of monkeys and bears to witness his jala-samadhi. “Sri Rama,” said Lord Brahma, approaching him, “You and your divine brothers may assume whatever form you would like to enable you to enter the ultimate heaven, your abode.” Sri Rama, Bharata and Shatrughna were a part of the great divinity of Lord Vishnu. So, they chose to be absorbed in the divine light of Lord Vishnu. Once, he reached his abode, Sri Rama requested Lord Brahma, “Lord, this populace has left behind all its material possessions and worldly joys and followed me. Please find a suitable heaven for them to enter.”
