It is a tender easy-to-grow short-season annual. Most summer squash grow on compact vines, in contrast to the sprawling vines of most winter squash and pumpkins. The plant blooms from midsummer to early autumn. Flowers are sometimes battered and fried or stuffed. These plants have separate male and female flowers on the same plant. The colour of the flower is yellow and foliage colour is medium green. The stems of these squash are deeply ridged. Squash is an excellent source of manganese and a very good source of vitamin C.
