The skeletal system is the bony framework of the body. It provides support and protects the soft organs like brain, lungs and heart. It has an important role in the body movement. This system is made up of 206 bones of different shapes and sizes. Bones are made up of living cells. The inside of some bones is soft and spongy. This is called the bone marrow. The skeleton consists of bones, teeth, cartilage and joints. The skeletal system along with the muscles in the body defines the shape and size of the body.
The human skeleton is divided into two parts : the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton.
