Skateboarding is a sport that was originally inspired by surfing. The idea was to surf streets. The origin of the sport is a matter of speculation and nothing concrete has been proved regarding the same. It seems to be a strangely spontaneous sport, which was not patented by any individual person. The first skateboarders started with wooden boards with roller skate wheels at the bottom. The boxes turned into planks, and eventually companies were producing the decks of pressed layers of wood as boards.
Skateboarding became a popular sport in the 1960s. Early skateboarding was similar to ballet or ice skating. The popularity of the sport waned in 1965. Companies stopped manufacturing skateboards and people had to resort to homemade versions using clay wheels which were dangerous to control. An event in the year 1975 in California proved to be a turning point for skateboarding where the team called ‘Zephyr’ performed incredible stunts and tricks which introduced the world to skateboarding, as we know it today.
