The monkey army succeeded in building a bridge over the ocean. Now Ram wished to establish a Shivling at this place. Sugreev and Hanuman got a sand lingam and Ram established it. He prayed ardently to Shiv who appeared before him and blessed him to overcome all obstacles. Ram requested Shiv to establish himself in that lingam. Shiv agreed and thus, ‘Rameshwar Jyotirling’ came into being. Later, Ram, Lakshman, Sugreev, Hanuman and Angad led a big army of monkeys and bears to Lanka. On reaching Lanka, a camp was made for Ram and Lakshman. The next morning, Ram made a last effort to prevent the war. He sent Angad as his messenger to Ravan. However, Ravan scoffed at Angad and told him to return in peace and just forget about Sita. He also said that Ram’s army would not be harmed if it retreated. The diplomatic dialogue thus ended fruitlessly.
