Saint Brendan was born in 484 AD in Feint, Ireland, and he died in 577 AD (aged 93 years) in Annaghdown, Ireland. Saint Brendan was also known as ‘The Navigator’, ‘The Voyager’, ‘The Anchorite’ and ‘The Bold’. Little reliable information is found on Saint Brendan but mention of him as a seafarer is given in certain books and Irish genealogies. He founded a number of monasteries, first of which he found in Arran where his first voyage took him. He also visited Columbia, Wales and Britanny on the North coast of France. He set out on his most famous seven-year voyage looking for Paradise.
Do you know: Saint Brendan is one of the ‘Twelve Apostles of Ireland’. He is primarily renowned for his legendary quest to the ‘Isle of the Blessed’, also denominated ‘Saint Brendan’s Island’.
