Pyotr Beketov was born in 1600, in Russia and he died in 1661 (aged 61 years) in Tobolsk, Russia. The founder of many cities, Pyotr was sent to Siberia and was the first Russian to enter Buryatia where he founded the first Russian settlement. He was in military service and was sent to Siberia from where he proceeded on his first voyage to Zabaykalye to collect taxes. They further founded Yakutsk to be used as a base for further expeditions eastwards. After his second voyage to Buryatia, he founded Chita, a winter settlement and in the following year the Nerchinsk. He established several more forts and collected taxes. In 1640 he transported the duties he had collected and was appointed a Cossack commander.

Do you know: In 1655, Pyotr was attacked by the Buryats and they barely managed to escape with their lives.
