Ponza

Ponza

The island of Ponza is the largest one in the Italian Pontine Islands archipelago that had been inhabited since the Neolithic period all the way through Roman times. The Island of Ponza was connected with the mainland by a narrow strip of land. However, this strip along with a major part of the island sank below the sea, whereas the harbour floor sank and rose many times over the last 5,000 years revealing sunken Roman temples. The white sandy beaches provide a stark contrast to the towering cliffs above them making for a striking scenery.
