Polythene

Nowadays we regularly hear controversy regarding polythene but even then we take it as one of the most human friendly inventions. It was accidently invented by a German scientist Hans von Pechmann in 1899 and was given the name of ‘polymethylene’ by his colleagues, Eugen Bamberger and Friedrich Tschirner. Such invented polythene was not found useful, so this invention was not recognized at all for almost 34 years. In 1933, Eric Fawcett and Reginald Gibson from ICI reinvented it.

Later in 1935, ICI developed polythene on industrial scale and used polythene for round-the-world telephone cable.  In World War II, it played a very important role by being used as a radar component. After such primary form, several other forms of polythene came into sight but in all these inventions environment friendly polythene is at top which is invented by a researcher Prof. SM Wahiduzzaman.
