Alexander was a little boy who was always fascinated by sound. His mother was almost deaf and his father worked with deaf people, helping them to learn to speak. Alexander played the piano for his mother and helped her follow a conversation by tapping a code on her arm. He grew up to be a professor by day and worked in the evenings to project the human voice electronically. It was only after years of research that he was given the funding to pursue his dream full time. Sadly, Alexander lost an infant son due to breathing problems. Determined to help other children with the same illness, he went on to invent the iron lung that has saved countless lives. With the help of a man called Watson, Alexander built a device that just might work. An accident proved him right, and the telephone was born. Alexander Graham Bell was taking a risk that his theories would work and the risk paid off handsomely.
