You will need:
- Compass
- A treasure or prize
- Garden or open wooded
- area
- 1 adult (who will serve as the expedition leader)
Create your very own treasure hunt using only a compass, and understand how to read maps and co-ordinates while having fun.
INSTRUCTIONS
- You could play this game alone or in groups.
- Make an adult hide a treasure or prize somewhere in the garden or open area.
- Next, ask him to create a starting line, and create a map giving directions from the starting line to the hidden prize.
- The directions should be simple, for instance, “Walk 10 paces north and 6 paces east and then move 4 paces south-east and 9 paces north-east.”
- Remember to measure the paces keeping in mind a child’s stride.
- Understand the workings of a
compass and have fun putting the
use of a compass into practice.
RESULT
Once you feel you have mastered the two-dimensional workings of a compass on the ground, you could complicate the game by adding more friends and breaking them up into partners, where each pair has to find the prize and each could be given different co-ordinates leading to the prize from different directions.
