What started out as a challenge between two friends in 1986, on whose nettle was the longest, gradually changed into another type of tradition, when three years into the competition a man by the name of Alex Williams stated he would eat his nettle if anyone else’s was longer than his. Unfortunately, he had to eat it. Since then, a new competition on who could eat more nettles than Alex, was born!
