Elizabeth Jane Cochran, well known as Nellie Bly, was born on 5th May 1864 in Cochran’s Mills, Pennsylvania, United States, and she died of pneumonia on 22nd January 1922 (aged 57 years) in New York City. Nellie was an American journalist who set the world record for the fastest trip around the world. Inspired by Jules Verne, she completed the journey from England, through Europe, Asia and onwards to North America in 72 days. She was the first woman to drive across India as well as Cape Town to the Nile. In 1895, Nellie married millionarie industrialist Robert Seaman, and subsequently became legally known as Elizabeth Jane Cochrane Seaman.
