Referred by various names including Sagarmatha and Chomolungma, Mount Everest is the highest mountain-peak in the world. It is located on the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal and Tibet. While the mountain has been there since the world began, the first recorded height of Mount Everest was done in 1856.
Why it is special: When the peak was measured for the first time, it was named Peak-XV. It received its formal English name–Mount Everest by the Royal Geographical Society in 1865. Standing at a monstrous height of 8,848 metres above the sea level, Mount Everest has attracted mountaineers and mountain climbers from all parts of the world.
