The angels like Mother Teresa are sent by Almighty God to make the people tread on the right path and give them comfort, when they languish in pain due to their sins. Mother Teresa was sent with a mission to eliminate the sufferings of the mankind and to show them the path of God.
This angel was born on 27 August, 1910 in Skopje town in erstwhile Yugoslavia. Her original name was Agnus Gonxha Bojaxhiu.
After having completed her schooling, she went to India and in Bengal gained admission in an institution run by ‘Loreto Sisters’. Then she went to learn English in Dublin (Ireland) in the year 1928.
In the year 1929 she was sent to Darjeeling to pursue her studies. In the year 1931, she was denoted the title Sister Teresa.
Later on, she was appointed as Principal in a Bengali School. She was not only a teacher par-excellence, but also a great social worker.
She had organised various teams of schools girls who would go to the slum dwellers and solve their problems. Some of the team members were sent to the hospitals to take care of the patients. In the year 1946, she was travelling in train, when she heard the voice of God, prompting her to serve the diseased and needy people of the world with all her heart and soul.
Thereafter, Mother Teresa reached Calcutta to obey the command of Almighty God. Now her sole objective was to work for the welfare of the people. Initially, she took a small hut on rent and began to teach the children of the slum dwellers.
Later on, she would also hold a separate class about health and hygiene and explain them about the value of cleanliness in day-to-day life.
Mother Teresa found a separate accommodation for herself and began to reside over there. She also opened up a dispensary to provide medicines to the patients. She would request wealthy people to donate for the upliftment of under privileged people of the society.
If she didn’t have any particular things she would tell people to give her. Now donations began to pour in from everywhere. The vegetable vendor would give free vegetables for the poor. The bakers would give free bread, the chemist donated free medicines and wealthy people donated money for the betterment of under privileged ones of the society.
Although, Mother Teresa had sufficient money to treat patients, yet she would face problems, when the number of patients increased gradually.
Slowly and gradually, Mother Teresa’s social welfare organisation, Missionaries for Charity expanded and spread its wings all around the world. Numerous men and women joined Mother Teresa’s organisation, and began to serve the mankind selflessly.
In the year 1962, Mother Teresa received ‘Padma Shri Award’ for her selfless services for the mankind. In 1971, she received ‘John Kennedy International Award.’ She was also honoured with Jawaharlal Nehru Award in 1969 by the Indian Government. She was awarded India’s top most civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1980 for her services towards humankind.
Mother Teresa left for her heavenly abode in the year 2003. The entire world mourned the death of this great social worker. Later, she was declared a ‘Saint’ by the Vatican.
Mother Teresa was a goddess of compassion and sacrifice. She is immortal. Her spirit up there in the heavenly abode will always keep on guiding all those angelic souls, who want to sacrifice their life for the welfare of humankind.
