Are you ready to do some more testing with litmus paper? Basically, you’ll be doing the same thing as you did in “Litmus Test” but with different substances.
Things Required:
2 homemade berry litmus strips
1/2 cup of water, with 2 or 3 squirts of window cleaner with ammonia
1/4 cup of lemon juice
Directions:
Dip the litmus strips and record your guesses and the results of the test as you did under “Litmus Test”.
This Is What Happens:
The litmus that was dipped into the lemon juice will have more red in it, but the one that was dipped into the window-cleaner ammonia will show more blue.
Lemon juice is another acid, called citric acid, but the ammonia solution is an alkali compound.
Can you guess what other fruits may have citric acid? Test your hypothesis.
