Once, a monk lived in a town monastery. The king looked after him well. One day, a senior monk came to the town. The king invited him to stay at the monastery. The town monk became jealous of the senior monk. The next day, the town monk went to the king’s palace without the senior monk. The king fed the town monk with delicious food and also gave some for the senior monk. Being jealous, the town monk threw the food on the way. However, on reaching the monastery, he found that the senior monk had left. Years later, when the town monk died, he was reborn as a demon 500 times and then a starving dog another 500 times. Finally, he was reborn as a human being. He was called Mittavinda. Sadly, his parents chased him away as he had brought bad luck to them.
Moral: Never be jealous of others. Be content with what you have.
