Subject : Wrong and defective books received.

Dear Sir,
This has in reference to my order for three books dated 8th May, 2007 I received the parcel from you yesterday which was supposed to contain the books I ordered. To my shock I discovered that the book ‘Useful Phrases and Idioms’ was not the one I had ordered. My order was for the book written by Sukumar Ghosh whereas the book sent by you is by Atulya Sarkar which I already have. So, it is useless for me. The other book ‘English Grammar’ is also defective. It has several torn pages and twenty of the pages are blank. Several pages bear diagonal printing. I am returning the wrong and defective books through a postal packet. Please replace the books with correct copies or refund their price. I hope you will do the needful without delay.

4. Write a letter to the Health Officer complaining against deplorable sanitary conditions in your area.

June 28, 20…

The Health Officer
Burari Area
Burari, Delhi-110084

Subject : Deplorable sanitary conditions.

Sir,
The sanitary state of the roads and streets of our area are sickening. We find rubbish dumps everywhere on roads and streets. The sweepers do not do their work properly. They just sweep the garbage to heap it in small mounds near the edges of the roads and leave them there for dog and cattle to scatter the rubbish around.
A few months ago our street (Gali) was cemented out of the funds our M.L.A. got. We were happy that our garbage worries were over. But we were in for a shock. During Navaratras woman fed cows. So, cows began to frequent our gali hoping for a regular feed. They plaster the gali with their holy droppings which made the sanitary situation worse. Flies sit on the droppings and sometimes it becomes impossible to negotiate the galis without holding breath or covering face with a hanky. The sweepers only laugh at our plight, I request you to do something about it before some epidemic breaks out.

Yours faithfully
Raj Kumar
5. Write a letter to the postmaster of your town complaining against non-delivery/late delivery of letters.

1241, Railway Colony

July 13, 20…

The Post Master
Head Post Office
Delhi-110006

Subject : Irregular delivery of letters.

Sir,
For many months the postman of our area is not delivering our letters properly. My brother had applied for a job. The call for the interview was delivered one week after the date of the interview was over. The dates stamped on the letter show that the letter had reached your office in due time, three days before the date of interview.
Thus, we are being put to great inconvenience. The letters containing cheques or vouchers seldom reach the addressees in our area. Postmen have been seen playing cards under shady trees during the summer months. One such scene was also shown on a T.V. channel. It was hoped that it would alert the concerned authorities and corrective steps would be taken. But unfortunately I see little improvement.
I request you to make proper enquiries under your own supervision and do the needful for regular delivery of our letters.

Thank you.
Yours faithfully
Anthony D’souza (T.T.E.)
6. Write a letter to transport authorities complaining against insufficient number of buses on your route.

Delhi-110084
September 23, 20…

The Manager (Bus Routes)
C/o Nathupura D.T.C. Office,
Delhi-110084

Subject : Insufficient number of buses.

Sir,
Large populations live in Nathupura proper and other colonies like Kaushik Enclave, Burari, Sant Nagar, Bengali Colony etc. situated along this bus route. The colonies accommodate a large number of government servants and others who work in old and New Delhi offices and establishments. Everyday there are crowds of people who go to New Delhi offices including Central Secrtariat and return in the evening.
During peak hours it is very difficult to board a bus (No. 185) going to the Central Secretariat and Connaught Place. Only a few buses available. Buses to ISBT (No. 192) are also not enough keeping in view the number of passengers. The buses always are crowded with people almost spilling off the doors. It has become an ordeal for the residents of this area to reach offices or other work places of Delhi in time. From the very starting point the buses get jammed and there is then mad rush to get in or get out on the stops in route. For old persons, women and children boarding these buses is an impossible task.
I therefore request you to kindly increase the frequency of Bus Nos. 185 and 192 originating from Nathupura, at least at peak hours.

Thanking you
Yours faithfully
Mohan Shamsher

The Station House Officer
Maliviya Nagar Police Station
New Delhi-110015

Subject : Theft of my motorbike no. DL5S 0061.

Sir,
I am sorry to report the theft of my motorbike (TVS Star) Reg No. DL 5S 0061, yesterday in the morning. On 4th October (yesterday) I went to Hauz Khas market to buy medicine for my sick father which were needed urgently as the doctor was waiting for the same. I parked my bike outside Modern Pharmaceuticals and Chemists and rushed in side the shop.
There was a lot of noise outside with vehicles coming, parking or driving away. For one of the drugs on my list the shop attendant had to go up the ladder and hunt in the top shelves. This exercise took my attention as I kept asking, the attendant to hurry up. Thus, I was able to come out of the shop only after a lapse of 20 minutes. Out there, to my horror I found that my red bike was not where I had parked it. I looked around and asked a few people who stood around there. No one knew anything about my bike. I rushed home on a rickshaw and handed over the medicines to my mother. Then, I rushed back to the market to look for my bike but failed to find it. I was told that the market was notorious for the thefts of bicycles and motorbikes. I hope you will take action immediately and trace my motorbike. Photocopies of the documents related to the vehicle is enclosed herewith with the purchase bill.

Your faithfully

Dear Sir,
A water pipe burst in our kitchen on 12th February, 20…as already reported by us to your office on the very next day. The water overflow damaged the wall and the floor of the kitchen. The water also entered our drawing room ruining the carpet and causing damage to our furniture.
Mr. Shamlal Rastogi, the insurance adjuster for your company duly paid a visit to our house to survey the damage on 28th February, 20…. He gave us an estimate of Rs. 70,000/- only to repair the damage. We thought it was reasonable. We duly hired the labourers and got the damages repaired. It cost us Rs. 68,550-00 only, which was well within the estimate.
Enclosed herewith find the copy of Mr. Sham Lal Rastogi’s estimate and the copies of the receipts of the bills for services of plumber, carpenters and interior decorators.

9. Letter complaining against poor performance of newly purchased refrigerator.

Fort, Mumbai-400001
September 17, 20…

The Manager
Santro Electronics & Electricals
S.N. Market, V.T.
Mumbai 400062

Subject : Poor performance of refrigerator.

Dear Sir,
I purchased 235 Lt. Himalay refrigerator from your store on May 8, 20… The chasis number of the piece I bought was H-22113 S.T. I regret to inform you that the refrigerator functioned satisfactorily for a few weeks only. Then, it suddenly began to make trouble. Its sound changed and began to make strange sputtering noises. Sometimes it sounds like an old creaky fan. Now it takes entire day to freeze just two trays of ice. The water of earthen pitcher feels cooler than the water bottles kept in the fridge. The vegetables and food kept in the fridge don’t last long.
Thus, the fridge purchased from you has become an embarrassment for us and a hot joke of our neighbours. The fridge came with a two year warranty. The photocopies of the warranty and purchase receipt are enclosed herewith. We had been verbally assured by the sales manager that if the piece turned out to be defective it would be replaced by a new one. We have not misused the fridge in any way and our area does not suffer from any fluctuations of electricity. So, it is obvious that the fridge has some manufacturing defect. Hence, I request you to send your engineer to check up the fridge and replace it with a new one as warrantied. I won’t accept any repair offer. I have already suffered a lot. If the fridge is not replaced within a reasonable period of time I will be forced to go to the consumer court. I will also invite the media to expose this case. I hope you will like to avoid all this bother as I do and settle the matter amicably.

Sincerely yours

Subject : Request to stop payment of cheque No. 110097 drawn on my SB A/c No. 102722.

Dear Sir,
I had issued a cheque No. 110097 for Rs. 750 only (Rs. Seven Hundred and Fifty only) in favour of M/s Jaina Book Company, Bhagirath Palace, Chandni Chowk, Delhi-110006 towards payment of some law books I had ordered from them. I am an old customer of the book company and I usually send cheque after receipt of the ordered books.
The books were supplied to me in the first week of the month of March and I had sent the above mentioned cheque on the same day. I have been informed that the cheque has not reached the party. So, I issued another cheque No. 110099 for the same amount. I think the first cheque had got lost in the mail transit. So, I request you to stop payment of the cheque No. 110097 for Rs. 750 only if it is presented or comes to you in clearance having fallen in the hands of some undesirable element.

Dear neighbour
I am sorry and feel embarrassed at worrying you with my own troubles but I hope that you will understand and forgive my impudence. My mother Rejeshwari Devi aged 78 years is critically sick and is in critical condition. She is under treatment at home. She needs total quiet and complete rest for recovery. Noise is like poison to her. We do not watch T.V. or play radio for her shake. Even the whistle of pressure cooker makes her wince.
I have been told that you have organised Bhagwati Jagran for tomorrow where devotional music will be played all night long over loudspeaker. I am afraid my mother won’t be able to survive that noise. So, I request you with folded hands to postpone your Jagran programme to some later date. You can see my dilemma.
I again apologise for my causing you inconvenience.

South Extension Police Station-II

Dear Sir,
I have to report that my 11 year old son, Zakat Hussain is missing and my entire family is deeply worried about him. All our efforts to trace him failed. We contacted the school authorities (New Age School NDSE-I) but they have no information. None of our relatives know anything about his whereabouts. Now you are my only hope. Zakat went to school in the morning as usual at 6.30 a.m. He was supposed to be back at 1 p.m. The staff of the school believes that he left school as usual at 12.30 p.m. because when the school closed the kids cleared out within 15 minutes. No one was left in the school premises except the staff. One of the friends of my son, Rakesh claims that he saw my son going towards Andrews Ganj with a man whom he did not know. He could not talk to my son as the two were some distance away. Rakesh can not describe the man because he had seen him from behind. According to him the man was in white shirt and blue golf cap.
My son Zakat was wearing blue shirt, white trousers and brown necktie (the school dress). He is 4′ 3″ tall and has wavy hair, short cut. I am sure that Zakat is playing no mischief. He is a loved boy and a serious student. We are very anxious because only last month a boy was kidnapped from this area for ransom. We did not receive any ransom call. Please do your best to trace my son. His photograph is enclosed herewith. My family and relatives will be too happy to assist you in any way in searching out my son.

Yours faithfully

August 10, 20…

Dear Mr. Qureshi
Thanks a million for returning my lost purse through courier service. I had lost it while travelling in a private bus to reach Vishwavidyalaya Metro station to go to the Rajiv Chowk. I discovered my loss when I groped for my purse to use the Metro Smart Card. I was missing. For a long time I stood there perplexed not knowing what to do. I had no money in my pockets. Luckily I saw an aquaintance and narrated to him my misery and predicament. He loaned me fifty rupees and that was how I returned to my home. I was getting reconciled to the loss.
Then, only two days hence, the courier boy delivered me a packet sent by you. Of course, it contained my purse. All the money was there (Rs. 860 only), Smart Card and the I.D. Card.
I was worried that my I.D. Card and Smart Card could be misused if fallen in wrong hands. So, I had reported the loss to the police station. Now I shall go there personally to tell the police how the lost property has been restored back to me by your kindness. Thanks for sending the purse so quickly saving me a lot of anxiety and worry.
It is very heartening to see that a conscientious gentlemen like you are still around in this selfish world. It redeems one’s faith in humanity. I have no words to express my gratitude to you and your goodness. If you ever drop by our area do pay visit to my humble abode. l and my family would be glad and grateful to meet you. Please, once again accept my thanks for your great kindness.

Subject : Sponsorship of Inter-School Computer Symposium.

Sir,
We, at Laxman Public School Hauz Khas are planning to organise a computer symposium called ‘Blog B-07’ to be held on October 4-5, 2007 in our school premises. It is an interschool affair in which 15 top schools of Delhi will be taking part. There will be more than 200 computer enthusiasts and hundreds of other visitors. Our last years symposium was a run away success. The symposium will be two day extravaganza filled with exciting computer quizzes, debates, programming events, games, crosswords, speeches by computer experts and personalities. There will be festival like atmosphere. Non-participants will be offered free video games at the venue. It will be an occasion when all the computer whiz kids of Delhi will be gathered at one place. Enclosed herewith are papers detailing all the programmes of the symposium to give you a clear idea of the event.
Your company has been a major manufacturer of sketch pens and colour pens and other stationery material, so popular, with the students. You have encouraged such events for the development of students and add colour to our lives. Hence, very humbly and naturally, I request your presence at the symposium and help in the form of sponsorship of the event. Sponsorship may be in the form of the direct financial help or in any other form you may suggest. The event surely will provide great publicity to your products. Needless to say that organising such an events costs a lot of money and only generous sponsorship can make the show viable.
We are herewith submitting a detailed estimated expenditure of the event.
Looking forward to positive response from you. Please note that we could have got easily the sponsorship from famous cold drink brands but our school is only interested in companies involved in manufacture of student products.
