Miracle leaf is a succulent perennial herb, growing widely and used in folklore medicine in tropical Africa, tropical America, India, China and Australia. Its stem is hollow, four-angled and usually branched. The leaves are opposite, decussate and succulent. The lower leaves are simple, whereas the upper ones are foliate and long-petioled. They are fleshy dark green that are distinctively scalloped and trimmed in red. It is astringent, sour in taste, sweet in the post-digestive effect and has hot potency. It is well known for its haemostatic and wound-healing properties.
