Mayon-Volcano

Also known as Mount Mayon, Mayon Volcano is an active strato volcano. Mount Mayon is located in Albay, on the Island of Luzon, Philippines. Mount Mayon, named after a legendary heroine, Daragang Magayon, is said to be at least 20 million years old.

Why it is special: Mount Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines. It has erupted over 49 times in the last 400 years, the last eruption being as recent as 2014. The first major eruption was recorded in 1616. The volcano is often referred to as the ‘perfect cone’, because of its symmetrical conical shape. In 1938, the Volcano and its surrounding areas were declared a National park, the first in the Philippines.
