You will need:
- Matchbox
- Good-quality rubber
bands - Strong glue
- Thin piece of wood
- Carving knife or
penknife - Cello tape
You know that music is an art; musical instruments are built on pure science. Create your very own miniature guitar to understand its inner workings.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut the piece of wood into a flat triangular shape so that its length may be a little longer than the width of
the matchbox. - Place the longest perpendicular length along the width of the matchbox, with the pointed end sticking out.
- Take a thin piece of wood and make 4 notches in the sloping side of the wood.
- Place it in the centre of the matchbox and stick it with glue in the upright position, in such a way that the notched sloping side is on top.
- Open the matchbox three-fourths of the way and tape the matchbox bottom, so that it may not slide back in.
- Fit the rubber bands around the matchbox, so that they may sit in the notches you created in the wood.
RESULT
Your miniature guitar is ready. You could play it by plucking on the rubber bands to create different pitches. Stringed instruments like the guitar, violin, cello, etc. all work because of the sound produced as a vibration of the strings. This vibration is modulated by the hollow body of the instrument.
