It is a walled area of 0.9 Sq.Km within the modern city of Jerusalem. The Old City is situated with the modern city of Jerusalem. The Ottoman Turkish Sultan built the walls of the Old City, that stand today, between 1535 and 1542.

Why it is special: The Old City is home to many religious sites, such as the Dome of the Rock, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Temple Mount, Western Wall and the Church of the Hold Sepulcher. Over the decades, the city was occupied by different regimes, each of which tried to impress his own culture upon it. The city is traditionally divided into four quarters, namely the Muslim Quarter, Christian Quarter, Armenian Quarter and Jewish Quarter. The wall surrounding the city itself is 4.5 km in length and between 5-15 metre in height.
