Hula Hoop

The hula hoop is known to be an ancient invention, and there is no company that can claim to invent or patent the first hula hoop. It is known that the Greeks used the hula hoop as a form of exercise. In ancient time, the hula hoop was made from varied kinds of materials such as bamboo, metal, grasses and vines. Later on, with technology, modern companies came up with their own types of hula hoop, and many unusual materials were used, including plastic. It is said that around 1300, the hula hoop reached Britain as a toy, and in 1800, the same was used with dancing in Hawaii. The company, Wham-O, is known to be popularly associated with the production of hula hoops in modern times. Arthur Melin holds a patent for his version for hula hoop, which he received in 1963, four years after he had applied for the same.
