Create a unique candy which has a very interesting texture with some simple ingredients and the help of ‘super’ science.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Take a steel plate and grease it completely with oil.
- In a steel vessel, take sugar, honey and water and ask an adult to place it on the stove.
- Keeping the flame on low, let the mixture boil. Ask the adult to keep measuring the temperature of the liquid with a kitchen thermometer.
- The mixture will begin to bubble and turn golden brown. Once the temperature of the mixture has reached 148° Celsius, take it off the flame.
- Take 1 teaspoonful of baking soda and ask the adult to mix it into the boiling liquid.
- Stir it just till the ingredients are all mixed together. The mixture will start to bubble and froth. Do not try to remove the bubbles.
- Take the mixture and pour it onto the plate. It will be thickened. Do not spread it out; otherwise, the bubbles will disappear.
- Let it cool, and then break it into pieces and be amazed by the texture.
RESULT
The baking soda converts the ordinary candy into a unique one with an interesting look and texture. This is because the baking soda releases carbon dioxide bubbles when it mixes with the caramel candy and these bubbles get trapped inside the candy. These bubbles not only give the candy a honeycomb look but also taste good!
