Bunter, the farmer’s terrier, had been watching Farmer Plover’s son, Harry, playing with a bright yellow balloon. He had never seen a balloon before. He had seen balls, of course. He even had a blue one of his own that Harry would throw for him. But this thing seemed wonderful to play with! The balloon floated off into the air and he had to jump up and catch it. What fun! It had a smile painted on it too. What a happy face it had! And there was a long string that followed it, like his own tail! He ran after Harry who was tossing and catching the balloon. “No, Bunter!” yelled Harry, frightened that Bunter’s teeth would burst his precious balloon. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew the balloon towards the tree-tops! “Oh, no! It’ll burst!” said Harry. Bunter leapt up and caught the string! And Harry hugged the little terrier for saving his balloon.
