Haroon Al-Rashid and the Arab-Girl

Caliph Haroon Al-Rashid was taking a walk with Jaafar, the Barmecide, when he spotted a few women drawing water from a well. The Caliph was thirsty, so he approached one of the girls. The prettiest of them started reciting a beautiful poem on seeing the Caliph. The Caliph was amazed and asked the girl if it was her own poem. The Caliph remarked that he could not believe it was her own poem and asked her if she could change the rhyme of the poem but keeping the same sense. She agreed and changed the rhyme which she did again on insistence from the Caliph. The Caliph was very impressed and came to know that she was the daughter of a tribal king in that area. He sent a word to the tribal king that he wanted to marry his daughter.  Readily, the tribal king agreed. She became the favourite companion for the Caliph. One day when she saw the Caliph sad she knew instantly that her father had died. She mourned for her father till her dying day.
