Francisco Vazquez de Coronado was born in 1510 in Salamanca, Spain, and he died on 22nd September 1554 (aged 44 years) in Mexico City, Mexico. Francisco was known for the discovery of the Grand Canyon and various other landmarks in America. He started his expedition to find the fabled seven cities of gold as per the legend but became the first European to explore the American West. He sent his men in various directions to look for the gold cities and a group of them moved to Colorado where they were the first people to see the grand canyon.

Do you know: Francisco married the daughter of Alonso de Estrad who was a former colonial treasurer; because of this allaince he earned one of the largest estates in New Spain.
