Kampong Phluk, meaning ‘Harbour of the Tusks’, is a village in Siem Reap Province in northern-central Cambodia. It is a cluster of three villages built on stilts on the Tonle Sap. The houses of Kompong Phluk are built on top of wooden poles and stilts between six and eight metres high. During the dry season when the lake is low, the stilts are exposed and the houses seem to soar on top. At this time, the villagers move out from the lake and build temporary houses. In the wet season when water level rises, the villagers move back to their houses on the floodplain.
