Firecrackers (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

1. Transparent tape
2. Toy gun refills
3. Matchsticks
4. Tissue paper
5. Knife
6. Water

There is something about a noisy firecracker. It is fun and exciting. But instead of buying one, try making one at home. Have fun with this experiment, but do be careful.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Firstly, make thin strips of tissue paper and roll them into strings.
2. Next, take matchsticks, and scrape off the heads of the matchsticks using a knife.
3. Ground the heads so that they may become a fine powder. Mix a drop of water into this to make a paste.
4. Now, roll the tissue string in it to coat the string evenly with the paste. This is your fuse.
5. Next, take the Diwali toy gun refills and scrape the inside of the rings.
6. Take a 2-inch piece of tape and pick up the gun powder on the sticky side.
7. Place the fuse in the centre of the tape and wrap the tape around the fuse.
8. Take another piece of tape and tightly wrap your firecracker.
9. Take your firecracker outside, light your fuse and move away.

RESULT

The fuse catches fire and burns all the way to the
inside of the tape, where the gun powder gets ignited
by the fire and it combusts with a loud bang!
