18 to 24 mm in length, the field grasshopper is generally in varying shades of brown, black and purple. They prefer to live in dry, grassy habitats, and even near wastelands, parks, roadsides, etc. Females lay 15 eggs below surface or even at times in an anthill. While they are primarily herbivores, they are also known to be polyphagous.
