Feed the Birds (61 Near Nature Experiments)

You will need:

  1. Steel slinky (found at a toy store)
  2. Wire hanger
  3. Ribbon
  4. Needle nose pliers
  5. Nuts (peanuts, walnuts, almonds, etc.)
  6. Scissors

Create your very own unique bird feeder with a
few items and have fun watching different birds
eat a hearty meal every day.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take your slinky and extend it to form a
    round oval shape.
  2. Cut a ribbon about 10 inches long and use the
ribbon to help keep the slinky in the oval shape.
  3. Next, ask an adult to help you open up the wire
hanger with the help of pliers. The thinner the
wire the better. Do not open the hook shape. You will use it to hang the bird feeder.
  4. Shape the wire in the same oval shape.
  5. Take your slinky and pass the wire through it.
  6. Start filling the slinky with nuts. Figure out
how much to stretch the slinky, so that the
nuts may be easily removable, but do
not fall out on their own.
  7. Once the feeder is filled with nuts,
    remove the ribbon.
  8. Tie the top two ends of the slinky
together with the ribbon and ask an
adult to twist the wire hook a few
times in order to make it sturdy.

RESULT

Place the bird feeder outside on a hook anywhere and watch the birds of different feathers come for a delicious lunch. Refill the bird feeder by stretching the slinky a bit and filling it with nuts.
