DUSHYANTA AND SHAKUNTALA

Shakuntala was a beautiful girl. She lived in the forest. One day, a king named Dushyanta came to the forest. Dushyanta saw Shakuntala fell in love with her and married her. The king then left for his palace after promising to return soon. One day, sage Durvasa came to Shakuntala’s door and asked for water, but Shakuntala paid no attention as she was thinking about Dushyanta. The sage got very angry and cursed Shakuntala that the person whom she was thinking about would forget her. Shakuntala begged the sage’s pardon. The sage said that he could not take the curse back. If she showed Dushyanta something he had given her then she would be freed from the curse. Shakuntala went to meet Dushyanta. On her way, she lost Dushyanta’s wedding ring. When she arrived at the palace, Dushyanta didn’t recognize her. Feeling sad she left the palace. Many days later, Dushyanta saw a ring near a river. Soon the curse was lifted and the king remembered Shakuntala. He hurried at once to the forest. Dushyanta found Shakuntala. Shakuntala was happy to see his husband. Dushyanta took Shakuntala to the palace and they lived happily together.
