The Philistines had by this time become very strong, and they tortured the people of Israel. The soldiers had an eye on the golden chest and believed that if they had it, God would have no option but to help them. With this intention, they robbed the chest from Eli’s son and killed them. Also, they fought ferociously and defeated their enemies. Eli desperately waited for the news at Shiloh. He was blind now and he heard the footsteps of the messenger who told him that their army had been defeated and the golden chest was taken over by the enemy. Eli was shocked and heartbroken to know that the chest that he had protected throughout his life was gone. He fell down and died.
