It is an age old custom in our country to marry children in their early age. But in the present modern scenario some illiterate and ignorant people of India still get their children married in their very childhood, with the result they have to face drastic consequences in their lives.
The children give birth to children at a very young age and are not able to provide parental affection and care to them. Secondly, this wrong action result in rise of population in India as they give birth to many children ignorant of the fact that it would not be possible for them to take good care of them.
The child should not give birth to another child, till he attains maturity, and is able to discriminate between right and wrong.
Some parents get their children married at a young age, because of the friendly ties they develop with the children’s in-laws. Some friends get their children married to the children of their friends and gain immense pleasure in doing so, but it’s wrong to give priority to one’s own happiness and ignore the happiness of the child.
The caste hierarchy also perhaps had its role to play in perpetuating such a system. Caste which is based on birth and heredity does not allow marriages between members of different castes . But as youngsters whose emotions and passions could be ruled by other considerations might violate this injunction. Out of the necessity to preserve itself, the hereditary caste system could have helped in nourishing the practice of child-marriage.
The child must not be married at an early age as he is not sensible enough to take a right decision at that time. The child must attain adulthood and thereafter get married to the decent person of his choice in order to lead a happy married life.
