Moorit is a Scottish word which refers to the light tan or reddish-brown fleece. The sheep have short, triangular tails. Their fleece is picked instead of sheared. These sheep have descended from an ancestry of ten ewes and two rams; this makes the breed vulnerable as a critically rare breed, as they number a little close to a thousand.
