Once, an old man had a young son. The old man feared that once he died, his relatives would take away his wealth from his son. So, he buried his wealth in the forest with the help of his loyal servant Nanda, and requested, “Nanda, keep it a secret till my son has grown up.” Soon, the old man died. When his son grew up, he came to know about the treasure. Both the son and Nanda went to the forest to dig up the treasure. However, every time they reached the forest, Nanda would abuse the young son and they would return empty-handed. Puzzled, the young son asked a wise monk for advice. The monk said, “Nanda has developed mana (power). He doesn’t want to part with the power of knowing the secret. Dig up the ground where Nanda stands in the forest.” The young son followed the advice and found the treasure.
