Brunfelsia is a deciduous or evergreen woody perennial. It grows up to 8 feet tall with several stems. The leaves are leathery and semi-evergreen, dark green above and pale beneath. The fragrant, pansy-like flowers with white throats last for three days and change colour with each day. The flowers start out purple, gradually fade to lavender and then white. The flowers of all three colours are present throughout the blooming season. The fruit of the plant is toxic. Titrated doses of root are highly recommended in the treatment of chronic rheumatism of an arthritic nature. The plant is used mainly for ornamental use.
