Bergen is the second largest, historic city in Norway. The city was founded more than 900 years ago and goes back to the Viking era. Seven mountains and fjords including Sognafjord (country’s largest and deepest fjord) surround the city centre. The city retains an old world charm with coloured wooden houses on the old wharf that at one time was an important trading centre. The Floyen Mountain offers a panoramic view and many hiking trails for keen trekkers. One of Norway’s biggest cultural events, ‘The Bergen International Festival’, is held here every year.
