The Bactrian camel is wonderfully suited beast of burden in inhospitable high altitudes! When fed and watered, the humps are erect, but otherwise they shrink and fall to the side. Gestation is about thirteen months, and the young are born in March and April. There are less than a thousand remain of the wild species of the camel.
