Farmer Barton’s orchard had a wonderful harvest of apples that year! Green, golden and red, they hung from the branches looking delicious! He had called more people to help him with the apple picking. And all the creatures on the farm were enjoying themselves, for so many apples had fallen that they got their share too. The hens had invited the ducks to try out the apples too. They had a tough time, for their beaks couldn’t deal with the apples, but it was all great fun. Bobbin, the horse, had eaten so many apples that he couldn’t trot! And when Farmer Barton loaded up the cart and said, “Giddy up!” to Bobbin, he just ambled along slowly! Farmer Barton was quite fed up. “I’ll have nothing left for the market if you eat up everything!” And Farmer Barton shooed away all the creatures during the picking. But he gave them some later, for he was a kind man!
