The Aogashima is a complex Quaternary volcanic island that is a part of Japan and is located in the Philippine Sea. Aogashima is a submarine volcano that had emerged from the sea. The entire island is only 3.5 km long and 2.5 km wide. The entire island is one large crater with a smaller Class C volcano in the centre. 358 km from Tokyo, and with a population of 170-odd people, Aogashima is a travellers delight. The 432-metre high peak on the outer rim commands a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean.
