It was once when a poet visited Tenali Raman. He thought he would impress the court jester with some of his compositions. But when he met Raman, he asked the poet to leave his poems with him, and promised to read them on a later date.
But the poet insisted that he wanted to read out the poems to Raman and did not want to leave them. So he started reading his poems but soon Raman fell asleep while hearing them out. When he woke up, the poet asked if Raman wanted him to read out the poems once again.
To this, Raman replied he had already given his opinion about the poems. This made the poet get baffled as Raman had slept during the recitation of his poems.
Raman instantly replied that he was right. His sleeping was his honest opinion about the poet’s poems.
